This website aims to give you a clear understanding of screen comedy, its past, its present and its future. Our group has researched what comedy is, and why it has worked on a local and an international scale. We have also investigated the funding process, funding bodies, and the production process in an Australian context. Lastly, using a wide variety of case studies we have looked to the future, and investigated different methods of delivery and distribution for comedy.
As our research covers a number of areas we have used a variety ways to gather our research. Initial research was based around existing studies of comedy on a biological level. We then progressed to research around what has been popular in a local and international framework. We looked at ratings, DVD sales, and popularity derived from Internet sites such as Youtube. To gain an understanding of the local industry and the funding process, we have spoke to industry professionals and explored a number of case studies. In terms of the future of comedy and it’s distribution, we researched current technological advances, current media distribution and reviewed a number of papers written by professors in the area.
